Clay Nix promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Clay Nix to Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Standards (OPS), effective July 16, 2016. As Deputy Director, Nix will be responsible for assisting the Director with overseeing the Criminal Investigations, Internal Affairs, Fugitive, and Audits and Compliance Units.   

“Clay has dedicated over 25 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Georgia through his work in law enforcement,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He is truly a valuable member of our team, and we look forward to seeing him excel in his new position as Deputy Director of OPS.”

Nix began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a jailer with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, where he also served as a radio operator. He was hired in 1993 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) as a Narcotics Agent. In 1996, Nix was promoted to Special Agent with the GBI and was assigned to the Atlanta Regional Office. Nix accepted a position with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, in 2005, as Senior Investigator, working white-collar crime, police-use-of force incidents, and high-end fraud cases. In 2008, he was promoted as Deputy Chief Investigator at the Dekalb County DA’s Office. Nix joined GDC, in 2013, as Inspector in charge of all OPS Investigative and Intelligence Units. 

Nix earned a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University.  

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
