New Deputy Warden of Administration Named at Smith State Prison

FORSYTH, Ga.— Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Vikki Irwin to Deputy Warden of Administration at Smith State Prison, effective May 1, 2015. As Deputy Warden, Irwin is responsible for overseeing the Business Office, Property/Supply Operations, Maintenance and Food Service departments at the facility housing 1,450 close security male inmates located in Glennville, Ga.
“Vikki has dedicated 15 years of faithful service to the Department,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “She will bring a wealth of knowledge to the staff at Smith State Prison.”
Irwin began her career with the Department in 1999 as a Storekeeper at Bostic State Prison (SP). In 2000, Irwin was promoted to Secretary II at Bostick SP, and in 2001 she served as the Secretary to the Warden at Scott State Prison. Upon the closure of Scott State Prison in 2009, Irwin transferred to Washington State Prison (SP), serving as the Secretary to the Warden. In 2006, Irwin was promoted to an Accountant Paraprofessional at Washington SP. In 2011, she was promoted to Administrative Operations Coordinator II/Business Manager at Washington SP, where she most recently served.
Irwin is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kaplan University. During her career with the Department, she has completed the following training courses: Basic Management Training (BMT), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP Training), and has received her GCPCA Certification.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
