Terence Kilpatrick Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Terence Kilpatrick to Warden at Smith State Prison effective February 1, 2018. As the Warden at Smith State Prison, Kilpatrick will be responsible for overseeing 325 staff members and 1,545 close security male offenders.

“Kilpatrick has served the department for over 25 years,” said Commissioner Dozier. “His experience and dedication will be a great benefit to Smith State Prison.”

Kilpatrick began his career with the Department in 1992 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair State Prison. During his tenure at Telfair, he has served as a Detail Officer, Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) Member, and Security Threat Group (STG) Investigator.  He was promoted to CERT Sergeant, Tier Sergeant, Tier Lieutenant, Administrative Lieutenant, Chief of Security, and Tier Unit Manager. In 2016, he was promoted to Deputy Warden at Ware State Prison, where he currently serves.

Kilpatrick has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Sergeant’s Academy; Basic Management Training (BMT); Deputy Warden’s Academy and Warden’s Pre-Command Academy.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
