Nathan Brooks Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Nathan Brooks to Warden at Washington State Prison effective February 1, 2018. As the Warden at Washington State Prison, Brooks will be responsible for overseeing 287 staff members and 1,432 medium security male offenders.

“Brooks has demonstrated a strong work ethic and leaderships skills,” said Commissioner Dozier. “I am confident that the staff and offenders excel under his leadership.”

Brooks began his career with the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Ware State Prison. During his tenure at Ware, he was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Chief of Security, and Unit Manager.  In 2015, he was promoted to Deputy Warden at Coastal State Prison, where he currently serves.

Brooks has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Performance Management Program (PMP); Basic Management Training (BMT); Advanced Management Training (AMT); Deputy Warden’s Academy and Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
