FORSYTH, GA. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Jim Laine as the Department’s Interim Human Resources Director effective August 1, 2015. As interim Human Resources Director, Laine will be responsible for human resource management programs and functions including recruiting and retention, compensation, hiring policies, awards and recognition and staff professional development for the largest law enforcement agency in the state.

“Jim’s experience with two law enforcement agencies, as well as his knowledge of the GDC mission will be invaluable to the Department’s Human Resources unit,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We all look forward to having him back on the GDC team.”

Laine retired from Georgia state government in 2014, following more than 25 years of service. He spent the latter eight years of his public sector career as Human Resources Director with the Department of Natural Resources. His prior experience includes more than 10 years with the Department of Corrections, five of which were in the role of Human Resources Director.  Laine earned his Correctional Officer P.O.S.T. certification in 1998, and maintained his qualification until the time of his retirement.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
