As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,966 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On December 11 at Smith State Prison, an individual was seen near the facility’s wood line. A search of the area found two footballs stuffed with marijuana, wrapping paper, and tobacco. Civilian Kelton Williams was arrested and transported to the Tattnall County Jail.
On December 9 at Wilcox State Prison, staff observed a vehicle parked near the facility. The occupants of the vehicle ran when they were spotted. A search of the vehicle found a drone along with a remote, cell phones, cell phone chargers, tobacco, marijuana, and rolling paper. Civilians Savante Fancher and Jalin Irvin were found in the woods and arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
On December 7 at Rogers State Prison, a person was observed walking along the perimeter of the facility getting into a vehicle. The GDC K-9 Unit and Tattnall County Sheriff's Office were requested to assist. A search of the area found tobacco and three bundles of unknown contraband. Civilians Jose Diaz and Alicia Bailey were arrested and transported to the Tattnall County Jail.
On December 5 at Calhoun State Prison, an individual was found on property near the facility. During the search of the area the following contraband was found: a drone, cellphones, meth, cigarettes, tobacco and marijuana. Civilian Timothy Riddlester was arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
