Contraband Arrest at Coastal State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,628 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On January 6 at Coastal State Prison, security staff noticed a suspicious vehicle near the facility and notified Port Wentworth Police Department. The vehicle occupants were identified as Joshua Saunders and Samarai Tourre. The vehicle was searched, and the following contraband was found: methamphetamine, marijuana, loose tobacco, rolling papers, a handgun, and cash. Port Wentworth Police Department arrested both suspects.
