Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,525 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On August 15 at Wilcox State Prison, a civilian was found walking near the facility. A search found cellphones, chargers and tobacco. Civilians Danny Swinton, Natasha Carter and John Pope were arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
On August 13 at Central State Prison, a vehicle was observed stopped on the road next to the facility. One unidentified civilian was found with a bag of unknown contraband. The civilian was arrested and transported to the Bibb County Jail.
On August 9 at Calhoun State Prison, staff member Atina Stevenson was attempting to enter the facility when contraband was detected on her person. A search found methamphetamine and cellphones. Stevenson was arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
