Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,516 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On July 22, at Central State Prison, an individual was spotted on facility grounds. The canine unit was dispatched and found Civilian Edward Mance and a package containing contraband.  Civilian Mance was arrested by the Bibb County Sheriff Office. 

On July 23, at Ware State Prison, security staff detected a suspicious person walking near the facility. The individual was stopped, the area was searched, and the following contraband was located: necklace, air pods, wallet, assorted circular stickers, t-shirt, socks, scale, THC, tobacco, MDMA pills, and cellphones. Ware County Sheriff's Office spotted another vehicle nearby, and the following was found: a gun, ammo, and drone batteries. Both subjects were taken into custody by Ware County Sheriff's Office. 

On July 25, at Georgia State Prison, Tattnall County Sheriff Department made a traffic stop.  Upon searching the vehicle, the following contraband was recovered: meth, loose tobacco, and cellphones. The driver, civilian Jose Rivas was arrested along with civilian Aron Castillo, who was arrested near the facility. Civilian Rivas and civilian Castillo were transported to Tattnall County Jail.
