Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,494 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On June 13 at Calhoun State Prison, an individual was seen on the facility’s security camera. A search of the perimeter found bottles of contraband containing marijuana, tobacco, cell phones, cell phone chargers, and lighters. A traffic stop near the facility found 3 unidentified men responsible for the contraband. All 3 men were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

On June 12 at Calhoun State Prison, an unidentified subject was seen on the facility’s camera. A search found a bookbag filled with contraband in the woods behind the facility. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office conducted multiple vehicle stops near the facility. During the vehicle stops, nine people were found in possession of marijuana, tobacco, and cell phones. All nine civilians were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

On June 10 at Telfair State Prison, a traffic stop was conducted near the facility where two civilians admitted to making a contraband drop at the facility. A search of the perimeter was conducted, and multiple packages were found behind the facility. The two individuals were arrested and transported to the Telfair County Jail.

On June 8 at Ware State Prison, an individual was seen on the facility’s grounds. A search found civilian Corstacia Ragster with multiple packages filled with contraband. Ragster was arrested and transported to the Ware County Jail.

On June 7 at Johnson State Prison, a traffic stop near the facility found civilian Lafayette Maxwell with an unknown amount of cocaine in his vehicle. Police who conducted the stop also learned that a suspect was headed towards the facility with the intention to drop contraband.  Civilian Max well was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Jail.
