Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,478 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On June 6 at Calhoun State Prison, 2 unidentified individuals were seen near the facility. The following contraband was recovered: marijuana, tobacco, phones, and hargers. Two unidentified males were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

On June 5 at Baldwin State Prison, an individual was spotted near the facility. A further search found two civilians. Civilian Megan Dickerson was in a vehicle near the facility and Civilian Douglas Geddes was in the woods behind the facility. Civilian Geddes possessed a backpack that contained unknown contraband. Both civilians were arrested and transported to the Baldwin County Jail.

On May 30 at Wilcox State Prison, a perimeter officer discovered a package near the facility. The package contained tobacco and cell phones. A further search found an additional package with unknown contraband. Two unidentified suspects were arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
