Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,462 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On April 25 at Wilcox State Prison, an unidentified suspect was seen near the facility’s wood line. A further search found Probationer Kevin Nichols with the following contraband: tobacco, cellphones, chargers with cords, rolling papers, and lighters. Nichols was arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
On April 24 at Burruss Correctional Training Center, security staff noticed a bulge in the waist area of Officer Brian Walker as he attempted to enter the facility. Officer Walker consented to a search, and the following contraband was found: ecstasy pills, oxycontin, Xanax pills, marijuana, tobacco, and strips of paper. Officer Walker was arrested and transported to the Monroe County jail.
On April 24 at Dodge State Prison, an individual was observed handing a large black trash bag to a fire team member. The bag contained tobacco, chargers, cell phones, and rolling paper. The individual, Tavarus Rogers, and his driver, Domina Gunsby, were both arrested and transported to the Dodge County Jail.
On April 23 at Calhoun State Prison, a suspect was seen in the facility’s wood line. A search tracked the suspect a mile away from the facility. The suspect was identified as Joshua Johnson and the following contraband was confiscated off his person: tobacco, cellphones, chargers, and cellphone batteries. Civilian Johnson was arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
On April 22 at Ware State Prison, a suspect was found throwing unknown contraband over the facility’s fence. Civilian Cedrick Daniels was arrested and transported to the Ware County Jail.
On April 19 at Calhoun State Prison, two suspects were spotted on facility grounds and a vehicle was seen parked near the facility. A search found civilian Maurice Johnson, civilian Joseph Wilson and driver Kenneth Grant with the following contraband: methamphetamine, marijuana, tobacco, K2 paper, cellphones, cellphone chargers, earbuds, gold chains, liquor bottles, SD cards, lighters, scales, rolling paper, dice, shower shoes, bandanas, and clothes. All three suspects were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
