Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,456 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On April 16 at Calhoun State Prison, Civilians Frank Parker and Sheldrick were arrested after they were seen speeding and throwing a black bag out of their vehicle. The bag contained marijuana, methamphetamine, tobacco, ecstasy, cell phones, cell phone chargers, cell phone batteries, scales, and headphones. Civilians Frank Parker and Sheldrick Walker were arrested by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
On April 14 at Wilcox State Prison, two unidentified males were found flying a drone over the facility. A search found a duffel bag and a bookbag with unknown contraband. Both men were arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
On April 10 at Wilcox State Prison, security staff observed a drone flying over the facility. While searching the area, an abandoned vehicle was located. Civilian Arnold Chianti was apprehended with a drone and a package with unknown contents and was arrested by Wilcox County Sheriff's Office.
On April 10 at Lee Arrendale State Prison, security staff observed an individual throwing contraband over the fence. Habersham County Sheriff's Office and GDC Canine were notified and arrested suspect Justin Alexander. A total of 10 packages wrapped in electrical tape were recovered.
