Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,376 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On February 16 at Valdosta State Prison, Food Service Supervisor Jessica Gilson entered the front entry and security staff observed a pack of cigarettes in her bag. Supervisor Gilson admitted to bringing the cigarettes for an offender, and was arrested by Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
On February 15 at Arrendale State Prison, visitor George Hiley entered the front entrance for visitation and voluntarily turned over 1 bundle of tobacco, 1 small bundle of dried pineapples and 2 candy bars. Hiley was arrested by the Habersham County Sheriff's Office.
On February 12 at Autry State Prison, Food Service Employee Natasha Clayton attempted to enter the front entry when the package scanner revealed methamphetamine (weight unknown) inside of her cup. Natasha Clayton was placed under arrest by Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.
