Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,265 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On August 3 at Hays State Prison, Visitor Tyra Manor consented to a search of her person where 2 dime size balloons containing an unknown substance were discovered. Visitor Manor was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office. 

On July 31 at Smith State Prison, Correctional Officer Shannan Isaac was arrested by the GDC Office of Professional Standards after she introduced contraband into the facility. Upon entering the front entry 2 bundles wrapped in black electrical tape were discovered inside a cup that belonged to Officer Isaac. The bundles consisted of an unknown amount of marijuana and an unknown amount of tobacco.

On July 30 at Autry State Prison, Nurse Susan Bennett was arrested by Mitchell County Sheriff's Office after an unknown amount of drugs were discovered in her vehicle by GDC Office of Professional Standards.

On July 30 at Central State Prison, Correctional Officer Tashica Pettigrew attempted to enter the facility, when security staff detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from her person. Three bundles of marijuana, which weighed approximately 151 grams, were recovered.  Officer Pettigrew was arrested by Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
