Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,217 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On April 28 at Wilcox State Prison, visitor Candace Miller was searched after entering the facility. Security staff discovered 2 small balloons containing 116 grams of tobacco. Miller was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.

On April 27 at Calhoun State Prison, Officer Alicia Mathis was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department as part of an ongoing investigation.
