Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,215 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On April 22 at Wilcox State Prison, security staff discovered a package wrapped in camoflauge and an additional package wrapped in black tape while searching the perimeter. Probationer Cornelius Williams was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.
On April 18, deputies with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Department searched a vehicle near Dooly State Prison. While searching the vehicle, the deputies discovered 6 bundles of unknown contraband. Two unidentified men were arrested by the Dooly County Sheriff’s Department.
On April 17 at Rogers State Prison, security staff discovered a one pound bag of loose tobacco in a vehicle. Officer Christy Johnson was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
