Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,211 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On April 14, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office performed a traffic stop near Montgomery State Prison. During the stop, deputies discovered 7 bottles of tattoo ink, 2 bottles of an unknown oil and 2 one-gallon bags of tobacco. Civilian Tammy Hall was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 14 at Macon State Prison, an offender was searched after visitation. During the search, security staff discovered a bundle containing an unknown substance. Civilian Courtney Scarpitty was arrested by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 8 at Hancock State Prison, security staff observed an unknown person near the facility. Security staff discovered 2 black bags. Civilian Brandi Thomaston was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
