Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,181 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On March 2 at Valdosta State Prison, security staff discovered 2 cell phones in a clear bag and 1 bundle of an unknown substance in a vehicle driven by food service supervisor Samaya Smith.  Smith was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 27 at Montgomery State Prison, the farm supervisor noticed a bulge under civilian Corey Hunt’s clothes. Upon further investigation, security staff discovered 12 packs of tobacco. Hunt was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
