Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,135 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the stat
On October 28 at Telfair State Prison, Visitor Sheunetta Dennis attempted to introduce contraband to the facility. Security staff discovered an unknown amount of marijuana taped to a minor child. Visitor Dennis was arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 25 at Ware State Prison, after an on-going investigation, security staff conducted a search of the state vehicle assigned to Officer Brandon Sheys and discovered 106 grams of tobacco and 44 grams of marijuana. Officer Sheys was placed under arrest by the Ware County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 24 at Johnson State Prison, The Wrightsville Police Department observed a male near the facility and conducted a search in which a black bag was found containing unidentified contraband wrapped in black tape. During this incident, a male and female attempted to pass by in a vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, and a search was performed, where 5 large bags of loose tobacco, 1 football, 1 box of clear wrap and 4 cell phones were discovered. The three civilians were arrested by Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
