Contraband Arrests at Washington State Prison and Smith State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,095 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the stat

On August 18 at Washington State Prison, visitor Sandra Hammack was questioned and admitted to concealing contraband on her person, after the offender whom she was visiting was found with the contraband. The contraband consisted of 2 balloons containing 2.4 ounces of marijuana. Visitor Hammack was arrested by Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

On August 14 at Smith State Prison, security staff observed an unidentified person running across the highway towards the Warden’s house. Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office was notified and apprehended Probationer Davonta Rozier. A search revealed 4 bundles of marijuana, 2 bundles of tobacco and 1 cell phone. Probationer Rozier was arrested and transported to Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
