Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,072 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the stat
On June 3 at Dooly State Prison, security staff noticed a strong smell of marijuana as Cadet Daisja Daniels attempted to enter the facility. Cadet Daniels consented to a search of her person, where 8 vacuum sealed packages containing 308 grams of marijuana were discovered. Cadet Daniels was arrested by Dooly County Sheriff’s Department.
On June 2 at Washington State Prison, Officer Eliesha Walden attempted to enter the front bunker when security staff noticed a bulge on her person. Officer Walden consented to a search, which yielded 4 bundles of unknown amount contraband. Officer Walden also consented to a search of her vehicle, where 1 bundle of an unknown amount of contraband was discovered. Officer Jamekia Morgan also consented to a search of her vehicle and 2 bundles of an unknown amount of contraband was discovered. Officers Walden and Morgan were transported to jail by Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 30 at Calhoun State Prison, a vehicle was observed continuously driving on the road east of the facility. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office performed a traffic stop and consent was given to perform a search of the vehicle. During the search, they recovered 3-golf ball size bundles wrapped in electrical tape and a small amount of marijuana. 3 civilians were arrested and transported to Calhoun County Jail.
