Contraband Arrests at Hays and Smith State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,066 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On May 28 at Hays State Prison, an offender was observed during visitation placing an object into his mouth. The offender was searched and 13 small bundles that contained 48 grams of meth were confiscated. The offender’s visitor, Dwayne Jones, was arrested by GDC Office of Professional Standards and transported by Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office to the local jail.

On May 23 at Smith State Prison, Georgia Correctional Industries staff member, Elizabeth Soto was arrested by GDC Office of Professional Standards and was transported to Tatnall County Sheriff’s Office following an investigation, where she admitted to bringing prohibited items to an offender.
