Contraband Arrest at Dooly State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,043 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On March 15 at Dooly State Prison, Officer Elise Merrell entered the briefing room, when officers noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from her person. After consenting to a strip search, 8 bundles of contraband, which contained 250 grams of marijuana, were discovered. Officer Merrell was arrested by Dooly County Sheriff's Office.
