Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 894 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On November 23, Calhoun State Prison Correctional Officer Pretorria Daniels was arrested by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Daniels admitted to bringing in contraband to an inmate. Officer Daniels was charged with Violation of Oath, False Statements, Bribery, Criminal Gang Act (2 counts), Trading with Inmates, and Items Prohibited for Possession by Inmates.

On November 26, Calhoun State Prison Correctional Officer Kanesha Ware was arrested by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Ware admitted to bringing marijuana on two different occasions to an inmate. Officer Ware was charged with Violation of Oath of Office, Bribery, Possession of Marijuana w/Intent (2 Counts), Criminal Gang Act (8 Counts), Crossing the Guard Line w/Contraband (2 Counts), Trading with Inmates (2 Counts), and Items Prohibited for Possession by Inmates (2 Counts).

On December 2, at Lee State Prison, Visitor Nicole Nottage was arrested after a consented search of her vehicle. The vehicle was searched by a K-9 Handler and Institution Investigator. The search resulted in an undisclosed amount of marijuana/THC discovered in the glove box. Nottage was arrested by Lee County Sheriff's Department and charged with Possession of Marijuana across the guard line.  

On December 3, at Coastal State Prison, the front gate portal sergeant smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Visitor Ann Marie Jackson. After consenting to a search of her person and her vehicle, a small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle. She was arrested by the Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department.

On December 4, Wilcox County Sheriff’s Department arrested Wilcox State Prison Correctional Officer Askalonia Barrett for Introduction of Contraband Behind Guard Lines and Violation of Oath by a Public Officer. Officer Barrett was unable to clear the metal detector at the front entry. Officer Barrett then consented to a strip search and contraband was found on her person. The contraband consisted of 6 small Ziploc bags of tobacco and 4 packs of rolling papers.
