Contraband arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 858 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On September 16, in front of Georgia State Prison, a part time Tattnall County Police Sergeant noticed a black Toyota Camry driving on Highway 147. The sergeant proceeded to pull over the Toyota for driving without a tag light. Upon making contact with driver Keitherrah Foster, the sergeant noticed two other passengers inside the vehicle, Probationer Jessica Mosley and Parolee Anthony Cain. The sergeant was given consent to search the vehicle by Foster. While searching the vehicle, the sergeant noticed an open package. The following contraband was detected: 36 packs of loose tobacco, 1 can of Buglar tobacco, 3 cell phones, 3 cell phone chargers and 4 balls of a loose leaf green substance wrapped in black electrical tap. While searching the vehicle, the sergeant also noticed a male, later identified as George May, walking towards the vehicle. The Georgia Department of Corrections Criminal Investigation Division (CID) assisted Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office with the arrest of Probationer Mosley, Parolee Cain, and civilians Foster and May. Each was charged with 2 felonies.

On September 17, at Montgomery State Prison, Montgomery County Sheriff Office arrested Visitors Kathleen Haxton and Shannon Haxton. While conducting a parking lot check, a correctional officer discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their unlocked vehicle.

On September 19, at Burruss Correctional Training Center, the Monroe County Sheriffs Department arrested Visitors Natashia Lambert and Tammy Griff after a search of their vehicle revealed 27 plastic bags of tobacco, 2 lighters, and 2 rolls of black electrical tape. The Institutional Investigator received information that Visitor Lambert would attempt to introduce contraband into the facility through visitation. Investigations also received information that Visitor Lambert had made a previous contraband drop at the Butts County outside detail site.  Both Visitors were met at the front entrance by investigations and questioned in regards to the alleged contraband attempts. Visitor Lambert admitted that she had made the previous drop and both visitors admitted to having contraband in the car with the intention to introduce it into the facility.
