New Special Assistant to the Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison
LaTonya King Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of LaTonya King, Compliance Monitor at the Special Management Unit, to Special Assistant to the Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison, effective May 1, 2026. As Special Assistant to the Warden, King will be aiding the Warden with the daily operations of the facility and management of staff and offenders.
"LaTonya has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout her career and has been a dedicated team member who consistently leads by example," said Commissioner Oliver. "We look forward to the impact she will continue to make in advancing the mission of the GDC.”
King began her career with the GDC in 2008 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP). During her tenure at ASMP, she was promoted to Sergeant and became a member of the TACT squad. In 2011, she transitioned to clerk and secretary positions before being promoted to Administrative Assistant in 2018. Later that same year, she was promoted to Facilities Compliance Specialist and North Regional Compliance Specialist in 2019. She was promoted to Unit Manager at ASMP in 2020, and in 2023, she was promoted to Private Prison Monitor at Riverbend Correctional Facility. In 2023, she transferred to the Special Management Unit as a Compliance Monitor, where she currently serves.
King's departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Special Operations (CERT/TACT) Basic Training, Basic Management, TACT Squad Training, ACA Accreditation Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Unit Manager Training, and Effective Communication.
