Disturbance at Washington State Prison
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is currently investigating a disturbance that occurred Sunday, January 11th at Washington State Prison involving multiple inmates believed to be gang-affiliated (security threat groups (STGs)).
At approximately 1:25 p.m. an altercation began on the sidewalk among several inmates, at which time, staff initiated procedures to clear the visitation area. During this process, several injured inmates were able to enter the visitation area, however, no visitors were injured and were safely escorted out of the facility by one of our dedicated Correctional Officers.
Staff responded immediately to the altercation and deployed non-lethal weapons. At approximately 3:00 p.m., staff had completed count and wellness checks and the incident was brought under control.
One Correctional Officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Three inmates are deceased as a result of injuries received during the altercation and their names are listed below. Thirteen inmates were transported to local area hospitals for treatment of injuries.

- Teddy Jackson GDC# 1002539030 – 10 years – Aggravated Assault - Bibb County - maximum release date July 2028
The facility is currently on lockdown, and the incident remains under active investigation.
