New Warden at Whitworth Women’s Facility
Lisa Thompson Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Lisa Thompson from Superintendent at Bleckley Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Facility to Warden at Whitworth Women’s Facility (WF), effective January 16, 2026. As Warden, Thompson will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and female offenders.
"Lisa has been a dedicated and dependable leader in each position she has held during her 25 years as part of the GDC team," said Commissioner Oliver. "We are confident in her leadership skills and correctional knowledge as she takes on this new role at Whitworth WF."
Thompson began her career with GDC in 2000 as a Counselor at Telfair State Prison (SP) and in 2005, she transferred to Pulaski SP as a Counselor. In 2009, she was promoted to Chief Counselor at Wilcox SP. Thompson was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Bleckley RSAT in 2013, and in 2018, she was promoted to Superintendent, where she currently serves.
Thompson earned her bachelor’s degree in human services at Mercer University. Her departmental training consists of Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Assistant Superintendent Training, Corrections Leadership Institute, Supervision I, II, and III, and Management I, II, and III, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
