New Deputy Warden of Administration at Augusta State Medical Prison

Samantha Carter Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Samantha Carter, Accounting Technician III at Hancock State Prison (SP) to Deputy Warden of Administration at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP) effective January 16, 2026. As Deputy Warden, Carter will be responsible for the management of the facility's business office, property/supply operations, and food service departments. 

"Samantha has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and professionalism throughout her tenure with the GDC,” said Commissioner Oliver. "We are confident her proven experience and commitment to the GDC mission will ensure continued success as she assumes responsibility for managing the business operations at ASMP."

Carter began her career with the department in 2003 as Administrative Support at Hancock SP, and in 2012, she transferred to Washington SP in the same role. In 2019, she transferred to ASMP as a Financial Operational Generalist, and later that same year, transitioned to the position of Supply/Warehouse Clerk, followed by a promotion to Administrative Support Specialist III. In 2022, she was promoted to Accounting Technician II, and in 2023 was promoted to Accounting Technician III at Hancock SP, where she currently serves.

Her departmental training consists of Basic Purchasing, Primary Governmental Accounting, Deputy Wardens Assessment, Supervision I, II, and III, Georgia Certified Purchasing Associate, and Georgia Certified Purchasing Manager.
