New Assistant Superintendent at Appling Integrated Treatment Facility
Gregory Griffin Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Gregory Griffin, Behavioral Health Counselor III at Appling Integrated Treatment Facility (ITF), to Assistant Superintendent at Appling ITF, effective January 16, 2026. As Assistant Superintendent, Griffin will be responsible for assisting the Superintendent with the daily operations of the facility, overseeing staff, and supervising male detainees.
"Gregory has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills during his twenty-year tenure with the state," said Commissioner Oliver. "We are confident his experience and proven leadership make him exceptionally prepared for his new role as Assistant Superintendent.”
Griffin began his career with the state of Georgia in 1996 as a Case Manager with the Bacon Department of Family and Children Services, where he was promoted to Placement Services and Adoption Case Manager in 2000. In 2005, Griffin joined the GDC as a Behavioral Health Counselor at Appling Pre-Release Center. In 2011, he transferred to the Douglas Probation Office as a Probation Officer (PO), where he rose through the ranks of PO II and POIII, and he monitored a specialized caseload of sex offenders. In 2022, Griffin transferred to the Waycross Day Reporting Center as a Behavioral Health Counselor. In 2024, he rejoined the department as a Behavioral Health Counselor II at Appling ITF, and later that year he was promoted to Behavioral Health Counselor III, where he currently serves.
Griffin earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University. His departmental training consists of Management Essential Training (MET), Gang Certification, Accountability Court, Sex Offender Officer Training, Court Specialist, Cultural Awareness, Hostage Negotiations, Supervision I and II.
