Tamara Grier Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Tamara Grier, Unit Manager at Hancock State Prison (SP), to Deputy Warden of Security at Washington SP, effective November 16, 2025. As Deputy Warden of Security, Grier will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 1,506 male offenders.

"During her twenty-two years of service, she has exemplified dedication, accountability, and strong leadership,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident she will continue to uphold our mission and lead with integrity in her new role as Deputy Warden of Security.”

Grier began her career with the GDC at Hancock SP in 2003 as a Correctional Officer. During her tenure at Hancock SP, she rose through the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant. In 2021, she was promoted to Unit Manager at Johnson SP, and in 2023, she transferred in the same role to Hancock SP, where she currently serves. 

Grier earned an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education from Oconee Fall Line Technical College and an associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Management I, II, and III, Supervision I, II, and III, Sergeant's Academy, and Effective Communication.
