Terrion Thurman Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Terrion Thurman from Behavioral Counselor III at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP) to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at GDCP, effective September 1, 2025. As Deputy Warden, she will oversee the delivery of educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs, recreational services and the mental health services of male offenders housed at the special mission facility.

“Terrion has gained a wealth of correctional knowledge as she has worked her way up through the ranks while serving in varying care and treatment positions,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident she will continue to lead with integrity as she takes on this essential role in overseeing vital programming for the offender population at GDCP.”

Thurman began her career with GDC in 2012 as a Correctional Officer at GDCP, and in 2017 began serving as the Field Training Officer at the Special Management Unit. Later that same year, she transferred to Metro Reentry Facility as a Behavioral Health Counselor II and in 2018 was appointed to the position of Facility Compliance Specialist for ACA. Thurman returned to GDCP in 2020 as a Behavioral Counselor III, where she currently serves. 

Thurman has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Paine College, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University and a Master of Arts in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. Her departmental training includes the following: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Post IT, Defensive Tactics Instructor Training, Field Officer Training, Supervision I, II and III, and Management I, II and III.
