New Deputy Warden of Security at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison
Nicholas Brown Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Nicholas Brown, Deputy Warden of Security at Rutledge State Prison (SP), to Deputy Warden of Security at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), effective August 1, 2025. As Deputy Warden of Security, Brown will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 3,704 male offenders.
“Nicholas has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in each position he has held within GDC,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident he will continue to excel as he takes on his new role at GDCP.”
Brown began his career with the GDC in 2008 at GDCP as a Correctional Officer and was appointed to the CERT team in 2010. During his tenure at GDCP, he was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. In 2018, he was promoted to Unit Manager at Burruss Correctional Training Center, and in 2023, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Central State Prison. In 2024, he was reassigned to Deputy Warden of Security at Rutledge, where he currently serves.
Brown received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Law Enforcement from Thomas University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration from Savannah State University. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Special Operations Training, Basic Management Training, the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, POST Instructor Training, Unit Manager Academy, Deputy Warden of Security Academy, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
