New Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Research, Strategic Planning and Government Relations
Louis DeBroux III Appointed
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the appointment of Louis DeBroux III to serve as Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Research, Strategic Planning and Government Relations, effective June 16, 2025. In this role, DeBroux will serve as Legislative Liaison, promoting legislative and policy priorities of the GDC and the primary contact with members of the Georgia General Assembly. Additionally, DeBroux will be responsible for managing the Office of Research, Planning, and Analysis, supporting strategic planning and the development and implementation of an agency tracking system of strategic initiatives and policy development.
“Louis’ leadership experience in strategic development, policy planning and legislative affairs will strengthen our efforts in advancing the GDC mission," said Commissioner Oliver. "We are pleased to welcome him to our team and look forward to the positive impact he will make."
Prior to serving as Chair of Bruce Thompson’s campaign for Labor Commissioner in 2001, DeBroux worked in the private sector as a Regional Merchandise Manager with G&K Uniform, followed by a position as Expediting Manager with ESI of Tennessee, where he was responsible for streamlining operations and ensuring on-time delivery of multimillion-dollar projects for Fortune 500 companies. In January 2023, he joined the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) as External Affairs Specialist. He was promoted to Chief of Staff in May 2023 where he was responsible for overseeing and managing Statewide Operations, Facilities, Legislative and External Affairs, and bringing Security in-house. Under his leadership, GDOL strategically invested $1.7 million in transformative capital improvement projects, modernizing facilities, upgrading HVAC systems, and boosting energy efficiency. DeBroux was also instrumental in driving improvements in operations, employee morale, and customer experience within GDOL’s 39 career centers. Following the tragic passing of Commissioner Thompson in late 2024, Louis assumed the role of Interim Successor, where he most recently served.
