New Deputy Warden of Security at Central State Prison
Janice Blackshear Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Janice Blackshear, Unit Manager at Central State Prison (SP), to Deputy Warden of Security at Central SP, effective May 16, 2025. As Deputy Warden of Security, Blackshear will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 1,152 male offenders.
"Janice has worked her way up through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities along the way," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are certain she will excel and continue to uphold the GDC mission as she advances to the next phase of her professional journey."
Blackshear began her career with the GDC at Macon SP in 2007 as a Correctional Officer and in 2007, she was promoted to Sergeant. In 2014, she was promoted to Lieutenant at Central SP, and in 2015, she transferred to Burruss Correctional Training Center. In 2018, she was promoted to Chief of Security at McEver Probation Detention Center (PDC), and in 2019, she was promoted to Unit Manager at Central SP, where she currently serves.
Blackshear is currently enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College pursuing an associate's degree in criminal justice. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Sergeant's Academy, Advanced Management Training, Management I, II, and III, Supervision III, and Unit Manager Academy. Blackshear also served in the United States Navy and is a Desert Storm veteran.
