Gregory Sampson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Gregory Sampson, Warden at Dooly State Prison (SP), to Warden at Macon SP, effective February 1, 2025. As Warden, Sampson will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 1,766 male offenders.

"Sampson has been an exceptional leader and dedicated staff member since beginning his career 19 years ago," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that his experience and professionalism will serve him well while he continues to uphold the GDC mission as Warden at Macon SP."

Sampson began his career with the department in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Rutledge SP, and in 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2014, he transferred to Clayton Transitional Center (TC) as a Sergeant, and during his tenure there, he was promoted through the ranks of Chief of Security and Assistant Superintendent. In 2020, Sampson was promoted to Superintendent at Phillips TC, and in 2021 he transferred to Clayton TC as Superintendent. In 2021, he was promoted to Assistant Warden at Central State Prison (SP) and was then promoted to Warden at the same facility. In 2023, Sampson was promoted to Warden at Dooly SP, where he currently serves.

Sampson holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Florida Metropolitan University and is pursuing a bachelor's in cybersecurity from the American Military College. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Tactical Squad Training, Sergeants Academy, Correctional Emergency Response Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, and Warden's Pre-Command.
