New Director of the Office of Reentry Services
Antonio Johnson Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Antonio Johnson, Director of Reentry, Cognitive Programming, and Residential and Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) to Director of the Office of Reentry Services effective October 1, 2024. As Director, Johnson will lead the operations and oversight of counseling services, cognitive behavioral programs, program research, development and implementation, substance abuse programs, RSAT, reentry initiatives and Chaplaincy and Volunteer Services.
“Antonio has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in providing reentry and programming services for offenders during his 20-year career with GDC,” said Commissioner Oliver. “His passion for collaboration with our partners and removing barriers for offenders will be instrumental to the continued success of our reentry efforts.”
Johnson began his GDC career in 2004 at the Clayton Day Reporting Center as a Substance Abuse Counselor. In 2008, he was promoted to Social Services Program Consultant where he assisted in expanding the Substance Abuse Aftercare Services (SAAS) program. In 2015, he was promoted to Program Manager in the Substance Abuse Unit managing RSAT programs statewide. In 2021, he was promoted to Director of the Reentry, Cognitive Programming, and RSAT in the Office of Reentry Services, where he currently serves.
Johnson received his Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor. He also serves as a Board Member for the Georgia School of Addiction Studies.
