New Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center
Sherryl Blair Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Sherryl Blair, Deputy Warden of Administration at Dodge State Prison (SP) to Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center, effective June 16, 2024. Blair will be responsible for overseeing staff and supervising approximately 230 minimum-security male detainees.
"Sherryl has demonstrated remarkable leadership skills during her tenure with the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “She brings a wealth of knowledge that will continue to benefit the staff and detainees at McEver Probation Detention Center."
Blair began her career with the department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC). In 2010, she was promoted to an Accountant Paraprofessional with the Consolidated Banking Unit (CBU) and in 2015 transferred to the Accounts Payable Unit as an Accounts Payable Paraprofessional. In 2016, Blair was promoted to an Administrative Assistant III (supervisor) in the Consolidated Banking Unit. She received a promotion in 2017 to a Business Support Analyst I with the Office of Professional Standards. In 2018, Blair transferred to Burruss CTC as the Business Manager, and in 2019, she was promoted to Deputy Warden of Administration at Dodge SP, where she currently serves.
Blair received her associate degree in social welfare from Macon State University, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Reinhardt University and her master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Deputy Warden Assessment, Supervision I, II, & III, Management I, II & III, Warden’s Pre-Command, and Peer Support Coordinator. Blair has also received her GAAP Certification and GCPA Certification.
