Victor Walker Appointed

FORSYTH, Ga. –  Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the appointment of Victor Walker to Interim Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP), effective July 1, 2023. As Interim Warden, Walker will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 1,157 male offenders.

“Walker brings a wealth of correctional knowledge to the staff and offenders at ASMP,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident that he will continue to uphold the mission and values of the agency.”

Walker began his career with the Department in 1985 as a Correctional Officer at ASMP, where he rose through the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant before transferring to Hancock State Prison (SP). In 1996, he was promoted to Warden at West Central SP, and throughout his tenure was promoted to Warden at Valdosta SP, Macons SP, Hancock SP, ASMP, and Baldwin SP. In 2012, he was promoted to Manager of Field Operations before accepting a position as the Warden of Effingham County Correctional Institute.

Walker holds an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Corrections Leadership Institute, Wardens Pre-Command, and Command College.
