Melissa King-Jones Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Melissa King-Jones to Assistant Superintendent at Clayton Transitional Center (TC) effective March 1, 2023. As Assistant Superintendent, King-Jones is now responsible for assisting the Superintendent with the daily operations of the facility, overseeing staff, and supervising approximately 376 male residents.

"Melissa has been a dedicated and dependable leader since beginning her tenure with the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that her experience and education will be an asset to the staff and residents at Clayton TC."

King-Jones began her career with the GDC in 2010 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (SP), and shortly thereafter, she was promoted to Behavioral Health Specialist. In 2016, she was promoted to Social Services Program Consultant with Inmate Services' Substance Use Unit, where she currently serves. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Columbus State University and a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training and various counselor trainings.  She is an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, an Internationally Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), and a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist.
