LaChesha Smith Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of LaChesha Smith to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison (GDCP) effective December 1, 2022. As Deputy Warden, Smith will oversee the supervision of educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs, recreational services, and the mental health services of male offenders housed at the facility.
“Smith has been a dedicated employee while working her way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “I am confident her correctional experience will benefit the staff and offenders at GDCP.”

Smith began her career with the GDC in 2000 as a Correctional Officer at GDCP.  During her tenure at GDCP she was promoted to Sergeant in 2011, Lieutenant in 2012, and Unit Manager in 2016.  In 2018, she was promoted to PREA Compliance Manager, where she currently serves. 

Smith has obtained an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Metropolitan University and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Supervision I, II, and III, and Management I, II, and III.
