New Assistant Superintendent at Long Unit

David Stokes Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of David Stokes to Assistant Superintendent at Long Unit effective October 1, 2022. As Assistant Superintendent, Stokes will be responsible for assisting the Superintendent with daily operations of the facility, overseeing staff, and supervising approximately 232 medium and minimum security male offenders.
"Stokes has displayed exceptional leadership skills in each position he has held with the agency," said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. "We are confident he will continue to excel in his new position as Assistant Superintendent."
Stokes began his career in 2013 as a Correctional Officer at Coastal State Prison (SP). During his tenure, he was promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief of Security, where he currently serves.
Stokes’ departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, CERT Basic Training, TACT Basic Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, Chief of Security Training and Sergeant Academy. He was also a member of the United States Military, from which he retired in 2013.
