New Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta State Prison

Charlie Marcus Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Charlie Marcus to Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta State Prison (SP) effective August 1, 2022. As Deputy Warden of Security, Marcus will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and over 1,000 close and medium security male offenders.
“Marcus has been a dedicated leader in each position he has held while working his way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident he will continue to excel in his new position as Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta SP.”
Marcus began his career with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in 1998 and then transitioned to the GDC in 2005 as a Correctional Officer at Autry SP. During his tenure at Autry SP, he was promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Unit Manager, where he currently serves.
Marcus is currently enrolled at Thomas University where he is working toward his degree in Criminal Justice. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Supervision I and II, Use of Force Training, and Isolation/Segregation Training.
