Georgia Correctional Industries Develops New Options

FORSYTH, Ga. – During National Nutrition Month, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) announced a plan for providing enhanced menu options for offender meals. Georgia Correctional Industries (GCI) has begun a phased approach to enhancing choices of fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein options.

“Updating some of our menu options is a priority for continuing to offer nutritious and satisfying meals,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “Our partners at GCI are making it possible to incorporate some new alternatives to the existing choices, and we are confident these enhancements will optimize dining options while also ensuring various dietary needs continue to be met,” continued Ward.

The updated menu is expected to be complete by May 1, 2021, and will consist of additional fruit and vegetable items, as well as new protein options. GCI is also working to develop recipes that increase wheat flour in muffin, roll, and cookie recipes without impacting flavor.
