Lieutenant Prince Davis, Jr. recognized

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Lieutenant (Lt.) Prince Davis, Jr. of the Southwest Region, as Trainer of the Year at the 15th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on September 24 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.  Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 400 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Timothy C. Ward were Alton Russell, Board of Corrections Chairman, Christopher Clark and Donnie Pope, Board of Corrections, and Terry Edge, Director of Professional Development.

“Lt. Davis Jr. works with a sense of excellence in everything that he does, within the facility and in his community,” said Director of Professional Development, Terry Edge. “He takes initiative to complete any tasks and exhibits consistent dependability.”

Lt. Davis is well respected by his supervisors and peers, as a motivated and passionate instructor with a mentor’s heart. He is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure his responsibilities and the goals of his training team are completed to the highest standards.   In his community, Lt. Davis started an outreach and mentorship program to assist young children.  Lt. Davis’ dedication to service has been proven within the department, as well as, in his hometown community.

The award is presented to any field or academy instructor who eagerly assists other trainers, maintains professional conduct on and off duty, adheres to and implements the POST standards of training, accurately maintains administrative duties and training records of their assigned facility, section and staff, ensures security and safety in the classroom setting, mentors new employees and supervisors, promotes teamwork throughout the agency, identifies methods to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the department, and contributes to the Office of Professional Development through acts of heroism, cost-saving, public safety, community service and interagency team building.
