FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Peter Adams, Jackson Defore, Tammy Sexton, Rodney Stone, Lauralene Williamson, Deidra Wheeler, Deanna Crews, Christina Pittman, Charles Smith, Jr., Ute Shepherd, Tonya Dominy, Marcia Primus, Sharon Luckett, Stephen Jordan, Alicia Ashley, Scott Smith, and Jana Fitzgibbon of Financial Services, with the Invocation/Process Improvement of the Year Award at the 15th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on September 24 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.  Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which were attended by more than 400 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Timothy C. Ward was Alton Russell, Board of Corrections Chairman, Christopher Clark and Donnie Pope, Board of Corrections, and Assistant Commissioner Alan Watson.

“The Financial Process team has shown outstanding service, dedication and professionalism on successful new processes on purchase order requirements, recurring payments, travel, and service maintenance agreements,” said Assistant Commissioner Alan Watson.  “Their dedication and commitment to the agency are indicative of their work-ethic.”  

The central office team created several process action teams to review key processes, which are designed to reduce unnecessary work and streamline processes.

The award recognizes innovative employees who have undertaken initiatives that have enhanced the effectiveness or efficiency of GDC and/or Georgia Correctional Industries (GCI). The recipient of this award has made a significant and positive impact on the agency’s operating or business processes.
