Inmate Death Being Investigated as Apparent Suicide

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Ga., as an apparent suicide.

On September 2, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Tyson Evans (GDC#1199541) unresponsive in his cell.  Emergency Medical Services were called and life saving measures were performed.  Evans was pronounced deceased by the coroner at approximately 6:58 p.m.  GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure. 

Evans was sentenced in Elbert County to serve thirty years for Aggravated Battery, Possession of Firearm during a crime and Possession of Firearm by a convicted felon.
