Sandi West Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Interim Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Sandi West to Deputy Warden of Security/Care & Treatment at Montgomery State Prison, effective December 1, 2018. As Deputy Warden of Security/Care & Treatment, West will be responsible for supervising and managing security staff, operation of the facility and  the supervision of educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs and the mental health services of approximately 400 offenders.

“West’s dedication to the agency and proven track record make her a great fit for this position,” said Interim Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “Montgomery State Prison will benefit from her wealth of knowledge.”

West began her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Smith State Prison.  During her tenure at Smith State Prison she rose through the ranks being promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and Lieutenant in 2011.  In 2016, West was promoted to Unit Manager at Smith State Prison, where she currently serves.  

West is pursuing a Criminal Justice Degree from Ogeechee Technical College. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Basic Management Training and the Professional Management Program.
