Brian Chambers Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Brian Chambers, Deputy Warden of Security and Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Montgomery State Prison, to Warden at Rutledge State Prison, effective October 1, 2018. As the Warden, Chambers will be responsible for overseeing approximately 203 staff members and 640 medium security male offenders.

“In the more than 20 years Chambers has worked with the Department, he has worked his way up the ranks and took the time to master each position at the facility level,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are confident that his vast GDC knowledge will greatly benefit him in his new role as Warden at Rutledge State Prison.”

Chambers began his career with the Department in 1997 at Telfair State Prison. Then in 1999, he transferred to Montgomery State Prison. While at Montgomery State Prison, Chambers served in various specialty positions including Key/Took Control, backup for I.D./Intake, Hazmat, Mailroom and Operations Analyst. In 2007, Chambers was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant in 2010. He served as a supervisor for all shifts including both inside and outside operations. In 2013, Chambers was then promoted to Captain at Montgomery State prison and served as the Chief of Security. Then the following year, he was promoted to Unit Manager at Georgia State Prison. He was then promoted to Deputy Warden of Security and Care & Treatment at Montgomery State prison in 2015. During that time, he also served as the Southeast Regional Lead Hostage Negotiator.

Chambers is currently enrolled at Georgia Southern University seeking a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology and Business. He also attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from Southeastern Technical College with a diploma in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. He has completed the following departmental training: Professional Management Program, Folger Adam Lock Smith and Ruger’s Armorer training, Basic Management Training (BMT), Deputy Wardens of Security and Care & Treatment academy and training in hostage negotiations.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
